Steve Young, Jubal Lee Young, Doug Lang opening 7/7/07
On July 7th we hosted our second Hillbilly Haiku House Concert. And officially peaked waaaaaay too early. Maybe that's exaggerating just a bit, but it is hard to imagine a finer evening of music. But we'll keep trying!
Doug Lang, in Texas for the Mickey Newbury Gathering, honored us by coming to town and opening for Steve Young and his son Jubal Lee. It was hard to believe my online friend had stepped out of my computer and into my home.
We had a full house, lots of good eats, great sound provided by our good friend Ramcey Rodriguez, and the amazing music of our performers. Scot Hamlin, luthier from Kansas and our newest online friend to set up shop in our hearts, brought several of his handcrafted instruments to showcase and share with our guests. Doug opened after my nervous introduction. Steve sat and enjoyed Doug's set like the rest of us, earning my unending respect. It felt so good to be able to share Doug's incredible music with our friends who have heard me speak about it often. I will attach a video of one of Doug's songs below.
Jubal Lee took the second set. He performed material from his new CD and our crowd ate it up. Jubal is writing good stuff and he's singing and playing like his daddy's son. I hope we might have Jubal back in the future, with Justin Townes Earle, who he's touring with as Sons of the Guns.
We took an intermission and then after a great introduction by Doug, Steve took our Hillbilly Haiku stage. He delivered better than an hour of Steve Young music and a select cover or two. He told stories and took requests. He was a total entertainer and a delight.
After the music was over, Doug, Jubal Lee and Steve talked with all who wished to engage them. They sold and signed CDs and took photos. They were warm and open and seemed to enjoy the socializing. If the house concert bug had not bitten me hard enough before this evening, I am a goner now for sure.
Bob Sima with Rob Thorworth 8/17/07
On August 17, Hillbilly Haiku House Concerts hosted Bob Sima and Rob Thorworth. My photos aren't that many or that good, but that's mostly because I was lost in enjoying the music rather than thinking about my camera... :-) If you get a chance to hear Bob's music, you'll know what I mean.
Joey Allcorn 9/8/07
Joey Allcorn hit the Hillbilly Haiku House Concert stage on Sept. 8! He brought real country music to a place hard up for the authentic stuff, Nashville. And we thank him.
